Exciting plans for the former Sowerby Bridge swimming pool
Posted: Friday December 2, 2011 by MikeHawdon Russell Architects serve on a steering group which is looking into the possibility of creating a major community project in Sowerby Bridge.
The redundant swimming pool, fire station and council offices on Hollins Mill Lane have been selected as a potential Community Asset Transfer by Calderdale Council and we have been involved in preparing an expression of interest in developing this site as a community focus for the town. Our proposal to the council working party has been accepted to the extent that we have now been given 6 months to prepare a formal proposal for transferring the buildings to the community.
We will now embark, with structural engineers and others, on a detailed survey and analysis of the buildings. We will also be involved in a town-wide community consultation to identify the desires and thoughts of the town’s residents and workers. We will continue to prepare ideas for community consultation, working these up for the formal bid to the council, and we will also be involved in identifying funding, preparing the management structure and developing the bid as a whole.
