Phil Hawdon
RIBA Architect, Dip Arch (Hons) Manchester, DA (Manc).

Phil attended Manchester School of Art & Design 1967-73 where he received a Diploma in Architecture and the Associate Diploma of the Manchester School. After a number of years in large private practices he joined Kirklees Council as Senior Architect, followed by 6 years as a sole practitioner before forming Hawdon Russell with Ian in 1986. For 17 years he was a school governor, chair of governors and a governor trainer, serving on local and regional committees and on the JCNC in Calderdale. As well as designing and overseeing a full range of architectural projects he has specialised in historic analysis of buildings and conservation work and in intensive disability access work, has qualifications in conservation work, in access assessment, as a planning co-ordinator under CDM and as a Party Wall surveyor. Phil also sits on the Halifax Town Team and was a speaker at an urban renewal conference in Dec 2008.
Ian Russell
Architect Dip Arch, Leeds.

Ian attended Leeds School of Architecture between the years 1960-66 where he attained a Diploma in Architecture. From 1966 to 1982 he worked in a small number of Local Authority Departments, culminating in the position of Principle Architect at Kirklees Council where he was responsible for a team of architects and technicians. In 1982 he set up as a sole practitioner prior to forming, four years later, Hawdon Russell Architects in partnership with Phil.
Robin Hawdon
Technician NC Const.
Robin has worked within the construction industry for over 16 years, gaining a wide range of experience along the way. He has studied at degree level and has held the position of architectural technician here at the practice for over 8 years. He has a deep and thorough knowledge of local architecture and construction. He is also skilled in three dimensional computer modelling and presentation techniques.
Michael J. Middleton
Architect Dip Arch, Manchester. MSc Sustainable Arch, Huddersfield.
Mike received his Architecture Diploma in 1994 and spent several years working as a freelance architect in Leeds. During employment at an Ilkley based practice he was principle designer and project architect for ‘The Millrace’ – a large, mixed-use development in Lancaster’s historic city centre which won the 2005 Lancaster Design Award. His early interest in sustainability issues culminated in receiving a Masters degree in Sustainable Architecture from the University of Huddersfield in 2001. Mike joined Hawdon Russell Architects in 2004.
Gwen Hawdon
Office Administrator Dip AD (Hons) Fine Art, Manc. DA Manc. PostGrad Dip Art History, Leeds. YHCertFE.

Gwen holds an Honours Degree in Fine Art and a Postgraduate Diploma in Art History. She is a practising painter, occasionally exhibiting. She has 30 years extensive experience of teaching and curriculum management of Art & Crafts in Adult & Community Learning. In this role she also participated in & chaired several L.E.A. Community Partnership and Representation bodies, and was a member of Calderdale MBC’s Joint Consultative & Negotiating Committee. She served many years as Secretary of the local A & CL branch of NATFHE/UCU.
