Roy worked as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in the Huddersfield and Bradford Local Authority Architects Departments studying part time by correspondence course with College of Estate Management, Reading. He qualified as a Chartered Quantity Surveyor in 1966 and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors in 1979. Between 1965 and 1978 he worked in the Leeds office of a large international QS Practice as a Senior Assistant progressing to Associate Partner. He formed a successful partnership with Stephen Mallison in 1978. Roy has worked as part of a design team headed by Hawdon Russell Architects on a wide range of projects over the past 15 years.

Malcolm Gardner (Garrison Associates)

Structural and Civil Engineer

Malcolm qualified from Bradford University in 1972. He worked for seven years with Alexander Gibb and Partners in London and the Middle East on large dam and building structure projects. After returning and completing a diploma in Structural Engineering at Bradford University he worked for Major Contractors and Consultants and was Deputy to the Chief Structural Engineer of the City of Leeds before setting up his own Engineering Consultancy Practice in 1993. He has designed and Project Managed the construction of numerous large and small structures including South Leeds Sports Stadium, Hull Off Shore Training Centre, Halifax Bowling Alley, together with many Listed Buildings including Calder House and No.2 Warehouse on the Wharf at Sowerby Bridge and the Bethel Chapel Complex of Buildings at Staithes. He has an extensive knowledge of surveying building structures.

Richard Nicholls

Richard’s early career involved research into low energy buildings and heating systems. This led to a period working in the Oldham MBC Technical Services department as an Energy Conservation Officer. Following this he obtained a post lecturing in environmental science and building services at Huddersfield University, where he set up and runs the MSc in Sustainable Architecture. In 2008 Richard’s book, The Green Building Bible: Volume 2 was runner up in the first RIBA international book of the year award.

Clive Horsman (Robinson Landscape)

Landscape Architect

A Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (MLI) and having nearly 35 years experience as a landscape architect, Clive commenced his career in1974 with Kirklees Metropolitan Council in West Yorkshire, working on education, housing, key projects such as civic square and town centre developments, the Council’s land reclamation programme and providing an advisory role in the planning department. In 1988 Clive formed his own practice gaining further experience working on a number of prestigious projects including banking HQ’s, business parks and leisure schemes and in 1996 created the partnership Horsman Woolley which continued to produce award winning projects. In 2002 his practice became a subsidiary of Robinson Design Group, and was re-branded with a name change to Robinson Landscape and is currently working on urban design and master-plan projects both in the UK and extensively in China. Clive has presented at many seminars in the UK and China and with publications in magazines and books.
